Reading

ELAGSE2RI2:   Identify the main topic of a multi-paragraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text.

Important Vocabulary: Paragraph , Main Topic , Key Details, Heading , Subheading

This week you will read two passages then identify the main topic/key details of the multi-paragraph text. You can print copies at home or use line paper to record answers!

Writing

Narrative Writing

Scholars we will continue to write personal narratives this week.
Watch the video about how to create a story map.  After watching the video, use the prompt to write a story about your favorite field trip. Use the word bank to help you include details in your writing. Write your story on a piece of paper. Take a picture of your story and send it to your teacher on ClassDojo.
If your scholar works with Ms. Thornton or Ms. Cantu, please use the following resources when completing the writing.

Math

Standard: MGSE2.OA.4 Use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns; write an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends.

Standard: MGSE2.OA.3 Determine whether a group of objects (up to 20) has an odd or even number of members, e.g., by pairing objects or counting them by 2s; write an equation to express an even number as a sum of two equal addends.

You will need objects to use as counters and square tiles: dried beans, legos, beads, cheez-its or square cereal are a few examples of items you can use at home.

Pencil and paper for all tasks/problem sets, a ruler and crayons/color pencils.

Vocabulary: row, column, array, repeated addition equation, number bond, odd, even, equal, addend, double(s).

Day 2: Use square tiles to decompose a rectangle. (OA.4)

After watching the video, complete the Day 2 problem set

If your scholar works with Ms. Thornton, complete problems 1-4.

Day 3: Relate doubles to even numbers and write number sentences to express the sums. (OA.3)

Day 4: Use rectangular arrays to investigate patterns of odd and even numbers. (OA.3)
